Music at GMAS
Curriculum
Music is taught to all students from Pre-Primary to Year 9, by Music specialists. Music becomes an elective subject in Year 10, where students have the option to study Western Art Music, Jazz, Contemporary or World and Indigenous Music. Georgiana Molloy Anglican School offers the Western Australian Certificate of Education in Music, giving student the option of following a TEE or non TEE equivalent course.
Music skills are developed through listening, performing, composition, theory and aural activities. Students experience a wide range of musical styles from classical to contemporary.
Instrumental
A team of dedicated and highly talented tutors provide tuition on the following instruments:

The Year 3 String Programme and the Year 5 Band Programme are run as scholarships to all students in that year group where they are given the chance to experience the joy of learning an instrument for a semester, free of charge. This is a voluntary course, offered on a first come, first served basis.
Ensembles
Georgiana Molloy Anglican School has the following ensembles:
Instrumental Ensemble – a vibrant ensemble of students playing a wide range of instruments. This group performs regularly at Assemblies and school functions.
Chorale – made up of students from Middle and Senior School, the Chorale is developing its skills through a wide repertoire of music, performing at school events and the Music Extravaganza.
Recorder Ensemble – a small ensemble, concentrating on a Baroque and Renaissance style of playing.
Junior School Singers – as the Chorale, but consisting of voices from the Junior School only.
GMAS Woodwind Ensemble – mostly classical and Baroque style music, with the odd spattering of contemporary.
GMAS Band – in its early days, but developing the skills necessary to perform in an ensemble situation.
Georgiana Molloy Strings – all string students learning at GMAS participate in this ensemble. They participated in the 2008 Bunbury Eisteddfod, winning first place in the U13 String Orchestral Ensemble.
GMAS String Quartet – four extremely talented players, finely tuning their ensemble skills.
Rock Band – an invitational ensemble, in a more contemporary setting.
Theory Class – this is a cocurricular activity run for those students who wish to further their already extensive knowledge of music, with the possibility of taking the ‘Associated Board of the Royal School of Music’ Exams in Music Theory.
