Georgiana Molloy Anglican School (GMAS) is seeking an experienced, passionate and collaborative educator to join our Secondary School leadership team as Head of Department – English and Languages, commencing in 2027.

About the Role

The Head of Department – English and Languages provides curriculum, professional and operational leadership across the English and Languages Department.

Working closely with the Director of Teaching and Learning, the successful applicant will lead and support Department staff, oversee curriculum, assessment and reporting practices, monitor student achievement and use data to inform continuous improvement.

Importantly, this is a hands-on educational leadership position. The successful applicant will maintain an active teaching role and model high-quality professional practice within the classroom.

The position is permanent and full-time, comprising a 0.15FTE Head of Department allocation and 0.85FTE teaching load.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • provide effective curriculum and educational leadership across English and Languages;
  • lead the planning, development, implementation and review of curriculum programs in accordance with SCSA, ACARA and School requirements;
  • promote high-quality, consistent and evidence-informed teaching, assessment and reporting practices;
  • monitor and analyse student achievement, progress and engagement data to inform Department priorities and teaching practice;
  • lead, support and develop teaching staff and foster a positive, collaborative and accountable Department culture;
  • coordinate moderation, curriculum documentation and assessment processes;
  • support professional learning, classroom observations and staff development;
  • contribute to subject selection, course counselling and student pathway processes;
  • oversee the effective day-to-day operation, planning and resourcing of the Department; and
  • work collaboratively with Heads of Department, Senior Leadership and the wider School community to support whole-School priorities.

About You

We are looking for an educator who combines strong classroom practice with the ability to positively lead and influence others.

To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:

  • appropriate tertiary teaching qualifications and current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia;
  • successful teaching experience within English and/or Languages, including the capacity to teach relevant senior secondary courses and ATAR level in at least one subject area;
  • demonstrated curriculum and educational leadership capability;
  • sound knowledge of curriculum planning, assessment, moderation and relevant SCSA and ACARA requirements;
  • the ability to lead, support and develop teaching staff and build a positive and collaborative team culture;
  • experience using student achievement and other relevant data to inform teaching, intervention and continuous improvement;
  • a commitment to high-quality, evidence-informed and inclusive teaching practice;
  • highly developed interpersonal, communication and organisational skills;
  • a commitment to professional growth, reflective practice, student wellbeing and child safety; and
  • alignment with the GMAS Vision for Learning, School Values and the ethos of Anglican education.
